How to decide between a Nanny or an Au Pair
Nannies basically can work longer than Au Pairs between 40-45 hours a week full time. Whereas an Au Pair can work for 30 hours a week and 15 hours of which should be monitored by a parent.
Nannies can work on their own and would have more experience in childcare hence they receive much higher salaries.
Au Pairs can do light household chores whereas Nannies and Junior Nannies generally only take care of cleaning activities involving children. -

Swiss regulations specify that your family can employ an au pair if the following are met:
A family that has at least one child aged 16 or younger
One parent should be present at home for at least 50% of your Au pair’s working hours
One parent should have German, Italian, or French as mother tongue
Can provide a lockable, liveable well-heated room with windows in your home for your Au pair
Willing to cover the cost of your Au pair’s mandatory 2nd language lessons (minimum of 120 lessons per year)
Can provide your au pair’s minimum allowance set by Swiss laws
Willing to cover the cost or half the cost of your au pair’s accident and health insurance
Will allow four weeks of paid vacation

Should you know an Au-Pair or a Nanny, we are happy to help you legalize her/him in Switzerland, by obtaining the work permit and the Visa (according to legal requirements).
